The Navajo Reservation, the largest Native American reservation in the US, is rich in history with well-preserved cliff dwellings. The land contains Canyon de Chelly National Monument (pronounced "d'shay"), Navajo National Monument, and Monument Valley Tribal Park, the south shore of Lake Powell and Rainbow Bridge. The Hopi Reservation is surrounded by the Navajo Reservation.

Cliff dwellings in Navajo National Monument date back to the 1200s. Kayenta, Tuba City, and Window Rock, capital of the Navajo Nation, are the Reservation's major towns. Chinle is near 26-mile long Canyon de Chelly National Monument with Indian culture dating back to 2500 BC. Canyon del Muerto, 25 miles long, has pictographs from the earliest human habitation.
