Woodland Hills, California is at the southwest corner of the San Fernando Valley, tucked between the Ventura-bound 101 freeway and the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. The first European men to see the Valley were in the Portola Expedition of 1769. They found Indians who called the area the Valley of the Oaks. It was under these California live oak trees that a treaty was signed to end the Mexican War. In 1941, Harry Warner of Warner Brothers purchased the area for use as a back lot for his studio productions and for breeding thoroughbred horses. He sold his land in the valley boom years of 1950-75. Warner Center, a business park, was built along with upscale custom residential homes that overlook the west Valley communities of Canoga Park, Reseda, and Van Nuys. Golfers will enjoy the Woodland Hills Country Club, with some hilly challenges and nice Valley views.
