Farmington, New Mexico located in northwest New Mexico in the Four Corners area, is the sixth most populous city in New Mexico, with a population of 38,000. This is thanks to the Four Corners Power Plant's insatiable demand for coal from the Navajo Coal Mine west of town; both are the largest operations of their kind in the US.

Visitors like to see the Four Corners area, including Shiprock, Canyon de Chelly National Monument (in Arizona), all in the large Navajo Indian Reservation.

Chaco Canyon, in Chaco Culture National Historical Park, is a beautiful area with lots of Anasazi Indian ruins that date back to about 1000 years. The Anasazi disappeared completely by the year 1300.
