Sierra Co., NM is a poor county in the southwest portion of New Mexico. Truth or Consequences, NM, once called Hot Springs, renamed itself to a 1950s-era radio show, then filled in its marshes, and rerouted a river that ran down its Main Street. This was all for a publicity campaign seeking to become a small resort town.
