Jackson Co. Oregon, just into Oregon from California, has some of the most scenic areas on the I-5 as it transverses the Siskiyou Mountains into Rogue River Valley.

Medford, Oregon is the commercial and population hub of this valley, a half-hour's drive southeast of Grants Pass on the Rogue River. 70 miles to the northeast is Crater Lake National Park. Tourism is big here, including fishing and rafting on the Rogue, skiing at Ashland. The area is famous for its Medford pears and its claim to have an annual rainfall of only 20"--or about half of what most of Oregon endures. The area is served by Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport (MFR).
