Moses Lake appeared suddenly in recent times. The huge lake was later found to be the result of water seeping through porous volcanic rock 60-100 miles from Grand Colee Dam. Moses Lake is now one of the largest in the state, having 120 miles of shoreline. Located on this shoreline is the town of Moses Lake where boating, fishing, hunting and bird-watching are big pastimes. On a good fall day some 100,000 birds migrate through here including Canadian Geese, ducks and heron; there are resident birds, too, including pheasants, quail and owls.
